    This Dad Is Photographing His Daughter Dressed As Inspiring Black Women

    “My wife and I really wanted to make sure that our daughter felt fearless. We made a special effort to find women who had broken down barriers, who had been a ‘first’ something. We are hoping that she will be able to benefit from being associated with some of these powerful women. As a photographer, I know how important images are. The portrayal of black women is not always positive, so I wanted to do something to combat that.” —Marc Bushelle

    The women 5-year-old Lily portrayed: aviator Bessie Coleman, Admiral Michelle Howard (the Navy’s first female four-star admiral), entertainer Josephine Baker, novelist Toni Morrison, fashion + music icon Grace Jones, astronaut Mae Jemison.

    ☺️☺️

    This is how to dad, guys. Pay attention.

  • Q&A: Querying Tips

    Anonymous asked:

    do you have any tips for querying? is there anything you wish you had or hadn’t done?

    HMM. Well, no new tips, really. Query only finished, polished work. Research agents before you query. Don’t query anyone you don’t really want to work with. Work on something new while you wait. Follow guidelines. Don’t be an ass. All stuff you’ve likely heard a million times before.

    Things I Wish I’d Done

    * Worked a bit harder on my query and manuscript. Even though I guess they “worked” I know they could have been better.

    * Spent more time writing new things and less time waiting to hear back.

    * Taken up meditation/yoga/running/other stress-relieving activities.

    Things I Wish I Hadn’t Done

    * Taken rejection personally.

    * Compared myself to others.

    * Re-read my query/synopsis/manuscript after I’d hit send.

    * Told those outside my inner circle I was querying.

    * Looked at the statistics, because omg scary.

    one difference between cats and dogs is that dogs do absolutely nothing to mask their clinginess while cats pretend it’s a coincidence they’re in the same room as you 97% of the time

    “The fact I am laying on your face means nothing”

    Yzma will come into my bedroom at night and sit on my face and purr. And then when I try to pet her, she’ll hiss and run off, like I’ve ruined everything.

    This has been going on for nine years.
